Methodology, Leadership, Smarts, Governance and Complexity are among the top challenges for the effective and efficient project delivery engine, and especially for the digital enterprise.
The 2020 Project Management Institute’s (PMI) ‘Pulse of the Profession 2020’ report from a global survey of over 3,000 project professionals, senior executives and directors. Respondents stated that of projects completed in the previous 12 months (pre-Covid), 59% were completed within budget, 53% were completed on time and 13% deemed failures.
If that project delivery engine is running well, the results can be spectacular. For a “champion”, enterprise value, profits and reputation are at the heart of corporate sustainability, growth and competitive success.
To illustrate, a PMI research study surveying 4,455 project management practitioners, 447 senior executives, and 800 project management office (PMO) directors from a range of industries, including government, information technology (IT), telecom, energy, manufacturing, healthcare, and construction. with respondents spanning North America; Asia Pacific; Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA); and Latin America and Caribbean regions shows clearly that:
Champion organisations realise Maturing their value delivery capabilities gives them the right project, program, and portfolio management practices give them a competitive edge.
But maintaining and maturing the right project delivery capability can be challenging. Strategy, structure, systems, processes, people, practice and sometimes even just horsepower may all need to be tuned or turbo charged.
